Compact Shredding for Fabrication Shops and Small Recyclers
Not every metal recycling application requires a 750 kW hammer crusher or a 2000 HP twin-shaft shredder. The TG-LightMetal 80 is built for facilities that generate steady volumes of light-gauge metal waste too thin and bulky to sell directly to scrap dealers at reasonable prices, but not dense enough to justify processing on heavy machinery. It processes thin sheet steel, aluminum sheet and profiles, copper and brass offcuts, electrical cable, and light mixed scrap-densifying these low-bulk-density materials into manageable fragments.
The 30 kW drive keeps operating costs modest-a standard industrial three-phase connection is sufficient, without the transformer upgrades that heavier shredders may require.
Specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Shaft Configuration | Twin counter-rotating |
| Drive Power | 2 × 15 kW (30 kW total) |
| Rotor Speed | 25–38 RPM |
| Feed Opening | Wide, low-profile (for sheet stock) |
| Max Material Thickness | Steel 3 mm / Aluminum 5 mm |
| Motor Frequency | 50 Hz or 60 Hz configurable |
| Throughput Capacity | Varies by material type and thickness - confirm at inquiry |
The wide, low-profile feed hopper is sized for sheet stock and profile offcuts that arrive flat or in long strips-material that tends to bridge in narrower hoppers. The twin shafts grip and pull sheet material into the cutting gap, shearing it into fragments rather than folding or crushing it.
Who Needs This Machine
- Fabrication shops: Sheet metal offcuts, skeleton waste from stamping and laser cutting, aluminum profile cutoffs
- Electronics recyclers: Sheet metal housings from computers and appliances (after component removal)
- HVAC and ducting manufacturers: Galvanized sheet offcuts, aluminum duct waste, copper pipe rejects
- Small scrap yards: Light mixed metal from household collections, bicycle frames, aluminum window frames
Material Suitability and Limits
| Can Process | Cannot Process |
|---|---|
| Aluminum sheet/profiles up to 5 mm | Solid bars or billets |
| Steel sheet up to 3 mm | Thick-walled pipe |
| Copper and brass sheet, pipe, offcuts | Castings or engine components |
| Electrical cable (pre-granulation sizing) | Material exceeding 5 mm steel / 8 mm aluminum |
| Light mixed scrap under 3 mm wall | Dense ferrous stock |
Cutting System and Maintenance
- Cutting discs: Alloy tool steel, bolt-on, individually replaceable
- Side liners: AR400 grade, bolted
- Shaft seals: Grease-purged labyrinth seals
- Discharge: Open discharge or optional screen
The disc profile is optimized for thin-gauge material: cutting edges are closer together than on heavy-duty shredders, producing finer fragments from sheet stock.
Drive and Control
The PLC control system monitors motor load and automatically reverses shaft rotation on overload. Soft-start is standard. The compact footprint allows installation in existing workshop spaces without major civil works.
Wear Parts and Support
Spare cutting discs, side liners, and screen plates are available as individual replacements. Our engineering team can configure disc profiles and hopper dimensions to match specific material types. Each machine ships with a spare-parts kit; standard lead time for replacement wear parts is under 45 days. Installation supervision, operator training, and a 12-month warranty are included.
Frequently Asked Questions
Request a Detailed Proposal
To prepare an accurate quotation, include your typical material type and thickness, estimated monthly volume, target output fragment size, site power supply (voltage and frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz), and available floor space. Mention whether you need the shredder as a standalone unit or integrated with a discharge conveyor or collection bin.
