Re-Opening Compressed Bales Into Shred Ready for Separation

Scrap bales are efficient to transport and difficult to process: drop a compressed bale of aluminum profiles or mixed light metal into an ordinary shredder and the machine either bounces the whole block or fights it one bite at a time, losing hours and wearing cutters for nothing. The TG-BaleShred 1000 is a heavy twin-shaft shredder purpose-built for baled and bundled feed: 2 x 250 kW geared drives, a 1,200 x 1,000 mm chamber with a tall wide hopper, and hydraulic bale guide rollers that present each bale flat to the cut. Rated output is 12 to 20 tons per hour on aluminum bales and mixed light-metal bundles.

The buyer problem here is the gap between baling and separating: many yards bale their light scrap for cheap inbound logistics, then discover that downstream separation equipment - eddy current lines, air classifiers, sensor sorters - needs loose, open shred, not bales. Re-baling or hand-breaking bales is labor nobody wants. This machine closes that loop: bales go in one way and open, uniform shred comes out the other.

Bale-Handling and Cutting Design

  • Hydraulic bale guide rollers: powered rollers in the hopper control how each bale enters the cut, keeping it flat and captive instead of letting it rock on the shafts - the common cause of bale-shredding jams.
  • Thick cutter discs on a wide chamber: the 1,200 mm shaft length takes a full bale width per pass, so the bale opens in two or three bites instead of being nibbled.
  • 2 x 250 kW drives: torque through heavy gear reducers breaks bale compression and cuts bundled profiles without relying on impact energy, keeping load spikes moderate.
  • Auto-reverse on overload: when a steel strapping band or bale wire enters, the PLC reverses the shafts; bands are cut and cleared rather than wrapping a shaft.
  • Bolt-on discs and replaceable combs: wear management stays a workshop routine, with individual disc rotation and replacement.

Fitting the Machine Into a Bale-Based Flow

Yards that buy or ship by bale should size this machine against their bale dimensions and strapping type, not just tonnage. The guide rollers handle standard bale sizes; unusually large or dense blocks should be confirmed before ordering. Steel strapping is expected feed and is cleared by the auto-reverse system, but continuous steel mesh banding should be removed where practical. Output particle size is set by disc and comb configuration and can be matched to your separation line's infeed specification - which is the whole point of re-opening bales in the first place.

Typical Applications

  • Compressed aluminum profile and extrusion bales
  • Mixed light-metal scrap bales for pre-separation processing
  • Bundled sheet and packaging trim
  • Feed preparation for eddy current and sensor sorting lines

Before You Order

Send us your bale dimensions, density, and strapping method, plus target hourly tonnage and the infeed specification of your downstream line. Our engineers confirm the disc configuration, hopper and roller geometry, and conveyor set before the machine is built.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bale sizes does it accept?

Standard scrap bales within the chamber's 1,200 x 1,000 mm working area are accepted directly. Larger blocks are confirmed case by case; the hydraulic rollers set the entry angle for your bale geometry.

Does steel strapping damage the machine?

Strapping and bale wire are expected in this feed. The auto-reverse control clears them, and bolt-on discs limit any damage to a serviceable wear event.

Why not just feed bales to a general shredder?

General shredders bounce whole bales or nibble them slowly, which wastes hours and cutter life. This machine's roller-guided entry and full-width chamber open bales in a few heavy passes.

Can output be matched to my sorting line?

Yes. Disc width and comb configuration set the output size, and both are selected for your line's infeed specification before build.
