Compact Twin-Shaft Shredding for Light-Gauge Metal

The TG-LightMetal 80 is a compact twin-shaft shredder built for small to medium-scale metal recyclers, fabrication workshops, and manufacturing facilities that generate light-gauge metal waste but do not need the throughput or footprint of a heavy industrial shredder. It processes thin sheet steel, aluminum sheet and profiles, copper and brass offcuts, electrical cable, and light mixed metal scrap-densifying these low-bulk-density materials into manageable fragments for recycling or downstream processing.

Key Specifications

Shaft Configuration
Twin Counter-Rotating
Drive Power
2 × 15 kW (30 kW total)
Rotor Speed
25–38 RPM
Feed Opening
Wide, low-profile

The wide, low-profile feed hopper is sized for sheet stock and profile offcuts that arrive flat or in long strips-material that tends to bridge in narrower hoppers designed for chunkier scrap. The twin shafts grip and pull sheet material into the cutting gap, shearing it into fragments rather than folding or crushing it, which keeps the output loose and uniform rather than compacted into balls.

Who Needs a Light-Duty Metal Shredder

Not every metal recycling application requires a 750 kW hammer crusher or a 2000 HP twin-shaft shredder. Many facilities generate steady volumes of light-gauge metal waste that is too thin and bulky to sell directly to scrap dealers at a reasonable price, but not dense enough to justify processing on heavy machinery:

  • Fabrication shops: Sheet metal offcuts, skeleton waste from stamping and laser cutting, aluminum profile cutoffs
  • Electronics recyclers: Sheet metal housings from computers, appliances, and electronic equipment (after component removal)
  • HVAC and ducting manufacturers: Galvanized sheet offcuts, aluminum duct waste, copper pipe and fitting rejects
  • Small scrap yards: Light mixed metal from household collections, bicycle frames, aluminum window frames, light gauge fencing

For these applications, the TG-LightMetal 80 reduces volume and densifies material enough to make storage, transport, and sale to foundries or mills practical. The 30 kW drive keeps operating costs and power supply requirements modest-a standard industrial three-phase connection is sufficient.

Cutting System and Wear Parts

The shafts carry bolt-on cutting discs with alloy tool-steel tips. The disc profile is optimized for thin-gauge material: the cutting edges are closer together than on heavy-duty shredders, producing finer fragments from sheet stock. Discs are individually replaceable without shaft removal.

  • Cutting discs: alloy tool steel, bolt-on, individually replaceable
  • Side liners: bolted wear plates, AR400 grade
  • Shaft seals: grease-purged labyrinth seals
  • Discharge: open discharge or optional screen for particle size control

Material Suitability and Limitations

The TG-LightMetal 80 is rated for light-gauge non-ferrous and thin ferrous material:

  • Aluminum sheet and profiles up to 5 mm thickness
  • Steel sheet up to 3 mm thickness
  • Copper and brass sheet, pipe, and offcuts
  • Electrical cable and wire (for pre-size-reduction before granulation)
  • Light mixed metal scrap with individual pieces under 3 mm wall thickness

The machine is not designed for solid bars, thick-walled pipe, castings, engine components, or any material exceeding 5 mm thickness in steel or 8 mm in aluminum. Feeding materials above these limits will stall the rotors and may damage cutting discs. For heavier stock, a larger shredder from the TG range is more appropriate.

Drive and Electrical Configuration

The two 15 kW motors are available in 50 Hz or 60 Hz configuration. The PLC control system monitors motor load and automatically reverses shaft rotation on overload. Soft-start is standard. The machine's modest power draw means it can be installed on a standard industrial three-phase supply without the transformer upgrades that heavier shredders may require-an important consideration for smaller facilities.

Compliance and Certification

The machine frame and guarding carry CE marking per the Machinery Directive. The manufacturing facility operates under ISO 9001 quality management. UL-listed control panel configuration is available for North American buyers on request. The compact footprint allows installation in existing workshop spaces without major civil works.

Buyer FAQ

What is the maximum material thickness the TG-LightMetal 80 can handle?
The machine is rated for steel sheet up to 3 mm and aluminum up to 5 mm thickness. Material exceeding these limits will stall the rotors and risks damaging the cutting discs. If your feed stream includes thicker stock mixed with light-gauge material, pre-sorting or a heavier-duty shredder is recommended.
Can this machine process electrical cable?
Yes, the twin-shaft shredder can pre-size electrical cable and wire for downstream granulation. However, it does not separate copper or aluminum from insulation-that requires a cable granulation system. The shredder reduces cable bundles to a size that feeds cleanly into a granulator.
What power supply is required?
The machine runs on two 15 kW motors, available in 50 Hz or 60 Hz configuration. Total connected power is 30 kW, which can be supplied from a standard industrial three-phase connection. Confirm your site voltage and frequency at inquiry.
How does this machine compare to the TG-2200 twin-shaft shredder?
The TG-LightMetal 80 is designed for light-gauge material at modest volumes. The TG-2200 is a heavy industrial shredder rated for mixed auto scrap at 80 TPH with a 2000 HP drive. The TG-LightMetal 80 targets fabrication shops and small recyclers with lower throughput needs and lighter feedstock. Choose based on your material type and volume.
Is CE documentation included?
Yes. The machine ships with the technical construction file, Declaration of Conformity, wiring diagrams, and an English operation and maintenance manual. UL-listed panel configuration is available on request.

Request a Detailed Proposal

To prepare an accurate quotation, include your typical material type and thickness, estimated monthly volume, target output fragment size, site power supply (voltage and frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz), and available floor space. Mention whether you need the shredder as a standalone unit or integrated with a discharge conveyor or collection bin.
