Purpose-Built for Aluminum Swarf: Preventing Welding, Wrapping, and Bridging
Aluminum machining waste presents unique handling challenges that general-purpose scrap shredders are not designed to address. Long, stringy turnings from lathe operations wrap around shafts and cause jams. Under high-speed impact, aluminum chips generate frictional heat that welds them into solid lumps. Loose chips have very low bulk density (0.2–0.5 t/m³) and bridge in standard hoppers.
The TG-AluShred 120 solves these problems with an inclined hopper that uses gravity assist to move loose chips into the cutting chamber, hook-style cutting discs that grip and sever stringy turnings, and low-speed shearing that keeps heat generation low to prevent work-hardening and welding.

Why Aluminum Swarf Needs a Dedicated Shredder
- Nesting and tangling: Hooked cutting discs grip and sever long strands before they can wrap. PLC-controlled automatic reverse releases any material that begins to tangle.
- Compaction and welding: Low-speed shearing prevents the frictional heat buildup that fuses aluminum chips into solid masses.
- Contamination: Swarf often carries cutting fluid, coolant residue, and tramp steel from tooling. The cutting discs handle contaminated feed without clogging; a discharge screen ensures uniform output.
- Bulk density: Shredding densifies loose chips, making handling, transport, and furnace charging practical.
Coolant and Contaminant Management
The cutting chamber has sealed shaft bearings and a drain point for liquid drainage during processing. For facilities that recover cutting fluid, drained liquid can be collected and recycled through a filtration system. Tramp ferrous contamination (wear inserts, broken tool tips, steel chips) should be removed with a magnetic separator downstream before aluminum enters briquetting or remelting.
Application Scope
- Aluminum turnings and borings from CNC lathe and milling operations
- Aluminum chips and swarf from drilling, tapping, and grinding
- Aluminum plate and sheet offcuts up to 4 mm thickness
- Aluminum extrusion short ends and cutoff waste
Not rated for solid aluminum ingots, large castings, or dense aluminum blocks-process these on a heavier-duty shredder. Magnesium turnings present a fire hazard and should not be processed without prior hazard assessment and fire suppression systems.
Drive and Control
The PLC monitors motor load and automatically reverses shaft rotation when torque exceeds the set threshold, clearing jams without operator intervention. Soft-start is standard. The control panel can be configured to CE or UL standards.
Wear Parts and Support
Spare hook-style cutting discs, discharge screens (10–40 mm), and side liners are available as individual replacements. Our engineering team can configure disc profiles and screen sizes to match specific swarf characteristics. Each machine ships with a spare-parts kit; standard lead time for replacement wear parts is under 45 days. Installation supervision, operator training, and a 12-month warranty are included.

Request a Detailed Proposal
To prepare an accurate quotation, include your typical swarf type (turnings, chips, mixed), estimated monthly volume, moisture/coolant content, target output particle size, site power supply (50 Hz or 60 Hz), and whether you need the shredder integrated with a briquetting press or magnetic separator. Mention any specific certification requirements for your region.
