Dual-Roll Compression and Shear for Controlled Fragment Sizing
The TG-RollCrush 300 is a double roll crusher engineered for metal recycling applications that require precise control over output fragment size with minimal fines generation. Two counter-rotating rolls with toothed segment surfaces draw material into the crushing gap, where it is reduced by a combination of compression and shear. The toothed roll profile grips individual pieces rather than relying on gravity or impact, making the machine particularly effective for processing brittle castings, metal chips, and pre-sized fragments that need a controlled final sizing pass before downstream separation or charging.
Key Specifications
The gap between the two rolls sets the maximum output fragment size. Material larger than the gap is gripped by the toothed segments, compressed, and sheared to pass through. The hydraulic gap adjustment system allows the operator to change output size without dismantling the machine. A spring-relief mechanism allows the rolls to separate momentarily if an uncrushable object enters the gap, preventing roll damage and shaft overload.
Why Double Roll Crushing for Metal Recycling
The double roll crusher offers specific advantages over jaw, cone, and impact crushers in certain recycling applications:
- Minimal fines generation: Compression and shear between rolls produce fewer fines than impact crushing, which is important when fines reduce downstream separation efficiency or lower the value of the recovered metal.
- Precise top-size control: The roll gap directly determines the maximum output fragment size. No material larger than the gap can pass through, giving a hard upper bound on output size—unlike impact or jaw crushers where output size is probabilistic.
- Low dust and noise: The slow-speed compression action generates less dust and lower noise levels than high-speed impact crushers, which matters for facilities operating under strict environmental and workplace regulations.
- Gentle on ductile contaminants: Ductile metals that enter the roll gap (copper wire, thin aluminum) tend to flatten rather than fragment. While this is a limitation if the goal is fragmentation, it can be an advantage if the goal is to flatten ductile contaminants for downstream screening separation.
Roll Segment Design and Wear Management
The roll surface carries bolted toothed segments manufactured from hardened alloy steel. The tooth profile—size, spacing, and shape—is selected based on the feed material:
- Coarse tooth profile: Larger teeth, wider spacing. For larger feed pieces and higher throughput. Produces coarser output.
- Medium tooth profile: General-purpose for most metal recycling applications.
- Fine tooth profile: Smaller teeth, closer spacing. For finer output sizing and smaller feed particles.
Segments are bolted to the roll core and individually replaceable. The roll cores remain in the machine—only the toothed segments are swapped during maintenance. Segment life depends on feed abrasiveness; track wear by measuring tooth height at scheduled intervals.
Application Scope
- Final sizing of pre-crushed cast iron fragments before foundry charging
- Sizing of metal chips and turnings for briquetting feed
- Reduction of brittle aluminum castings to uniform particle size
- Preparation of steel scrap fragments for direct furnace charging
- Controlled sizing of pre-shredded material before eddy-current separation
The double roll crusher is optimized for brittle, pre-sized material. It is not a primary crusher—feed should be pre-sized by a jaw crusher, impact crusher, or shredder. Feeding oversized or ductile material can stall the rolls or cause excessive wear. Confirm your maximum feed piece size at inquiry.
Drive and Electrical Configuration
Each roll is driven by an independent motor via gearbox, allowing the rolls to run at slightly different speeds if needed to improve material pull-through. Motors are available in 50 Hz or 60 Hz configuration. The PLC control system monitors motor load and reverses roll rotation on overload to clear jams. Soft-start is standard.
Compliance and Certification
The machine frame and guarding carry CE marking per the Machinery Directive. The manufacturing facility operates under ISO 9001 quality management. UL-listed control panel configuration is available for North American buyers on request. Safety interlocks on access covers prevent opening during roll operation.
Buyer FAQ
Request a Detailed Proposal
To prepare an accurate quotation, include your typical feed material types and maximum feed piece size, target output fragment size, required throughput, site power supply (voltage and frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz), and whether the roll crusher follows a jaw crusher, impact crusher, or shredder in your line. Mention your preferred tooth profile (coarse, medium, fine) if known.
